Understanding Parents’ Rights in Special Education will provide vital information to teachers on how to equip parents in advocating for their children. The training will include information on the newly passed P.A. 100-0993 (the components of this legislation that are  intended to improve parent participation in IEP development) and the role of the ISBE monitor in addressing parent concerns. The instructor will highlight parent participation in the IEP planning process, the legislative updates to parents’ rights, rules regarding school visitation and records requests and opportunities in the upcoming legislative session.
