Are you frustrated with students who don’t know the joy of reading? Do you have students who get bored easily when it comes to reading, or merely skim for the main idea? If so, it’s time to incorporate new teaching strategies that will foster a love for reading that will reap many benefits. Your students will become critical thinkers. They will be able to read with more stamina and confidence. They will be able to synthesize and apply the information they read, and they will enjoy doing it. This course provides classroom routines, resources and easily adaptable strategies that will help your students find success in an interconnected and ever-changing world. This standards-aligned course is suitable for 4th through 12th grade teachers across all disciplines. This activity is aligned with the Common Core State Standards, the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards and the CPS Framework for Teaching Components: 1c, 1d and 2b.
Sign up for the course at bit.ly/TT-QC. Several days prior to the start of the course, participants receive an email with instructions for accessing the course. A week’s material is posted at the start of each week. Participants are expected to read content and review various resources, write replies/answer questions, share experiences, and engage in discussions with the course facilitator and other participants. None of the assignments are completed in "real-time;" you can work at the times that best suit your own schedule.
