Teachers spend their days focused on helping their students develop skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Schools collect and analyze data to drive instruction, revamp curriculum, address individual learning needs, and challenge high achievers. While these are essential to our students’ education, we often overlook the development of life skills that are most important in developing accomplished students and members of society. These skills include integrity, work ethic, communication, setting and achieving goals, having a positive attitude, and overcoming challenges, to name a few. In this course, educators will learn the importance of teaching these skills and how to better incorporate them into their daily lessons. This professional development activity is aligned to the ISTE Standards and to the CPS Framework for Teaching Components: 1b, 2a and 2d.
Sign up for the course at the above link. Several days prior to the start of the course, participants receive an email with instructions for accessing the course. A week’s material is posted at the start of each week. Participants are expected to read content and review various resources, write replies/answer questions, share experiences, and engage in discussions with the course facilitator and other participants. None of the assignments are completed in "real-time;" you can work at the times that best suit your own schedule.
