Full course description
Online Only | JPA's school-based treatment and counseling services help children overcome the burdens of trauma and toxic stress. They also help teachers and parents understand and address their students' and children's needs. Therapy for elementary and middle school children, combined with helping their teachers understand the effects of trauma and how to deal with it, greatly increases chances that all those involved will have more positive experiences and outlooks on life, education, and personal growth. Alec Ross, Clinical Director and ICSW faculty, and Francesca Cole-Barnes, Director of Family and Community Engagement will discuss their programs and perspectives on trauma. Learning objectives for this workshop:
* Promote understanding of the emotional and psychological impacts of community violence on families and youth.
* Learn strategies for helping at-risk youth.
* Provide knowledge about and access to resources to address the emotional and psychological impacts of violence.
