Facilitating Difficult Conversations and Discussions in the Culturally Responsive Classroom

Ended Feb 29, 2024
3 credits

Full course description

Online Only | Topics like race, culture, gender, and/or sexual orientation will come up in many fields, and any course dealing with current events presents an opportunity for social topics to arise spontaneously in class discussions. As educators, how we manage those discussions, can greatly impact how impactful these conversations are to our instructional goals, relationships and impact the dynamics of the class. Many of the strategies in this workshop focus on techniques that are instructionally planned or can be applied to discussions that pop up unexpectedly. This professional development activity is aligned to the ISBE and National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and to the CPS Framework for Teaching Components:  1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3c, 3e, 4a, 4c, 4e
