We strongly believe that Love, Learning, and Liberation are at the core of anti-racist, culturally sustaining classrooms. Love encompasses how adults take time to unpack and understand their own identities, as well as the identities of their students & communities to build genuine relationships that create a classroom community of care, trust, and authentic learning. Learning includes what students learn, how they learn it, and how their lived experiences are integrated, celebrated, and sustained in curriculum and instruction. Liberation is the ultimate goal of teaching and learning. In a classroom that fosters students’ liberation, students experience freedom in learning, in being their authentic selves, and they learn to apply their knowledge and skills to contribute to a more just society.
