In Person | Description: Join us at The Chicago Teachers Foundation for an electrifying journey into the world of DJing! Designed for students aged 13-18 and educators alike, this course is your gateway to mastering the art of mixing and blending beats like a pro. Led by Karen Soto, NBCT and seasoned DJ Tony Technics, this hands-on class will equip you with the skills to command the decks with confidence. From understanding the fundamentals of rhythm and tempo to mastering advanced mixing techniques, you'll learn how to unleash your creativity and express yourself through music. Central to the curriculum is the utilization of DJ controllers and industry-standard software. You'll gain proficiency in navigating these essential tools, empowering you to craft seamless transitions, create dynamic playlists, and unleash your unique musical vision. Whether you're a novice looking to explore the world of DJing or a seasoned enthusiast seeking to refine your skills, this course offers something for everyone. Join us and embark on a thrilling sonic adventure that will leave you spinning with excitement! This course is designed for all teachers from 7-12th grade. Participants will receive 45 ISBE clock hours and 3 CPS Lane Placement Credits. This professional development series is aligned to the CPS Framework for Teaching Components 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 3a, 3c, 3e, 4a, 4b, 4d, 4e, 4f.

Instructors:  Karen Soto, NBCT and DJ Tony Technics. DJ Tony has been Djing House Music for 27 years and runs 2 Indy labels that cater to house music and techno and also have been producing music since 2014 with music on all online platforms.

Note: Enrollment is limited to 10 teachers. The teachers must bring one student (the same student) with them to the classes and the festival.

Course Dates: Saturdays - 5/4/2024, 5/11/2024, 5/18/2024, 5/25/2024, 6/1/2024, 6/8/2024, 6/15/2024, 6/22/2024, 6/29/2024, 7/6/2024, 7/13/2024

Course Time: 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Festival Performances: 7/19 – 7/21
