Full course description
According to an advisory by U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, Americans today face an epidemic of loneliness and social isolation—a reality especially prevalent among young children and adolescents. As these feelings grow stronger, educators are increasingly called upon to support student mental health and well-being on a daily basis. Join us for a full-day educator professional development workshop, presented in partnership with the Goodman Theatre’s nationally recognized Education and Engagement team, where you’ll gain actionable strategies to address these urgent challenges. Through hands-on activities, you'll explore research-backed methods, peer-recommended techniques, and arts-based approaches to promote mental health, reduce stigma, and foster meaningful connections in the classroom. To further enrich the experience, participants will attend the afternoon performance of Goodman’s PRIMARY TRUST, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Eboni Booth. This PD is in alignment with the CPS Framework for Teaching: 1a., 1b., 2a., 2d., 3b., 3c., 3e., 4a., 4c., and 4d.
Note: Lunch will be provided during this PD.
