Lifting As We Teach: Workshop & Tour for Educators
Aug 5, 2025 - Aug 7, 2025
15 credits
Full course description
Embark on an immersive professional development journey designed specifically for middle and high school educators.
This PD workshop highlights the histories of Black women who transformed Chicago and explores how their legacies, and the diverse neighborhoods that hold their stories, can be brought into the classroom. Over three days, participants will take part in a guided tour through Chicago, an interactive curriculum deep dive, and view the Invisible Giants documentary.
This workshop invites educators to explore essential questions:
- How can we teach history not just as a record of the past, but as a living, breathing responsibility?
- What histories are missing from our classrooms and from our collective national and local memory?
- How can educators “lift as they teach” to ensure students receive the most inclusive and empowering education possible?
Tour and Accessibility Details:
The tour includes moderate walking for a few blocks at a time, as well as getting on and off a tour bus. Please note that at this time, we are unable to accommodate wheelchair accessibility needs.
