Full course description
Online Synchronous Course | If you are thinking about how to spark curiosity in all students and increase their investment in learning, there are a few small shifts you can make to welcome students' interests and identities that will minimize blank stares and limited participation. This five session course: Reinvigorate Yourself and Students: Use UDL to Increase Engagement invites teachers to deep dive into the Universal Design for Learning Framework (https://udlguidelines.cast.org/) as a lens for identifying and implementing practices that increase and support student engagement without an entire curricular rehaul. We will consider how to optimize choice, optimize relevance, value and authenticity, nurture joy and play and address biases, threats and distractions. A collaborative review of research, experiential learning, personal reflection, model curricular examples and space for application to your practice will support you in designing for an increasingly inclusive classroom that centers learner agency and maximizes engagement.
