Full course description
Bring August Wilson’s words to life in your classroom! Join us for a full-day educator professional development (PD) workshop, presented in partnership with the Goodman Theatre’s nationally recognized Education and Engagement team, designed to deepen your content knowledge and energize your teaching. In this immersive PD session, you’ll explore the life, legacy, and language of August Wilson and his Century Cycle through hands-on activities, arts-integrated strategies, and culturally responsive, standards-aligned instruction you can immediately apply. Educators will collaborate to develop classroom-ready lessons rooted in Wilson’s work and leave with practical tools for close reading, dynamic discussion, and rich historical context. To further enrich the experience, participants will attend the afternoon performance of Wilson’s Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Open to teachers of all subject areas. This course is aligned with the CPS Framework for Teaching Components: 1a, 1b, 3b, 3c, 4d, and 4e.
Note: Lunch will be provided during this PD.
