Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Art education even improves student behavior and attendance. The freedom to manipulate objects in certain ways allows for both exploration and experimentation, leading to creation and innovation. In our 21st century technological world, we are reliant on scientists and engineers who can think outside the box to solve problems, create and innovate. They need to use artistic skills to bring those innovations to fruition. Therefore, arts education is an investment in the future workforce and the prosperity of our nation. In this course, participants will gain practical ideas for the integration of the arts across all subject areas resulting in a deeper understanding of content and improved academic achievement. This course is suitable for teachers of first through eighth grade across all subject areas. Please plan to spend an average of 15 hours/week for successful completion of this course.
