Full course description

The issue of gender gaps is not new.  Gender inequities have occurred in education and in the workforce throughout history, and continue today. Schools have made efforts be gender blind, but this alone doesn’t resolve the problem.  Boys and girls are different in their motivation, learning styles, behavior and academic strengths.  Surprisingly, boys outperform girls in better socioeconomic areas, and the reverse is true in low-income schools.  This course is for teachers who want to learn more about gender gaps in schools and better reach all students, regardless of gender. This offering is aligned with the Illinois Social and Emotional Standards and the CPS Framework for Teaching component 1B.

Several days prior to the start of the course, participants receive an email with instructions for accessing the course. A week’s material is posted at the start of each week.  Participants are expected to read content and review various resources, write replies/answer questions, share experiences, and engage in discussions with the course facilitator and other participants.  None of the assignments are completed in "real-time;" you can work at the times that best suit your own schedule.
